Copyright Basics

This webinar focuses on the various types of works protected by copyright, as well as their legal classification and handling within a higher education context. Particular emphasis is placed on literary works and works of applied art.

The session explains the relevant criteria for protection and the rights of authors. Using case law examples, it also explores the degree of differentiation required from pre-existing works to ensure that a newly developed work is independent and can be safely commercialized. 

Participants will learn to recognize where and how copyright protection arises and the benefits that can be derived from it.

• Overview of copyright-protected works and their specific protection criteria
• Moral rights and economic rights of the author
• Access to source material and the requirement for sufficient differentiation
